Preparation

To turn your senior expertise into value (income, subscribers, or impact), you need a dedicated side hustle workspace. A workspace that provides easy access to all the tools you need. In addition to this site’s step-by-step series, you can download the PDF guide “How-To Create a Digital Workspace to Build Your Side Hustle”. It shows you in detail:

Many starters use tools from different manufacturers. If you are a senior with basic computer skills, you should prefer an integrated set of basic tools from a single manufacturer. It prevents drowning in a sea of techspeak, lets you use your skills efficiently, and minimizes upfront costs.

By using a free set of smart Google tools, we meet these requirements. Especially Gemini, Google’s AI, is tremendously helpful for text creation, illustration, and local marketing. Besides, Gemini has deep knowledge of the Google tools we use and can provide easy-to-grasp answers about how to use them.

The Adjustable Example Project

The step-by-step series on this site uses the “Growing Strawberries Indoors” case study as an example project. Once ready, it will be very easy to adapt this example to your idea. What we built is a reusable system to test side-hustle ideas. The example idea is to start a ‘Growing Fruit Indoors’ course.

Before renting a classroom and developing course material, we test this idea. We will offer a free “Growing Strawberries Indoors” guide and a short email series on growing fruit indoors. If enough people sign up, we assume the idea has the potential to succeed. If so, it’s a good idea to invest more time and energy in expanding the basic system.

The next step would be to test what people are willing to give you in return—whether that’s money, energy, partnership, or whatever else you’re aiming for.

Building

Once your digital workspace is set up and your smart tools are ready, the workforce can start building. You are the Builder in charge. The AI Hired Hand assists you. I am your Guide, providing the blueprints.

To test the example idea, we will create five essential building blocks:

  1. A Landing Page
    The landing page hooks the reader and prompts a click on the ‘Learn more’ button.
  2. A Compelling Story
    This is where the ‘Learn more’ button leads. It’s a web page with a strong story. It clearly shows your solution. A button on this page gives visitors access to your valuable free asset.
  3. A Valuable Free Asset
    You offer a valuable free asset and a three-email educational series. Both are closely connected to the side hustle idea. If enough visitors sign up for it,  your side hustle idea could be viable.
  4. A Request Form
    We use a Request Form to gather email addresses. This automatically adds interested people to your subscriber list.
  5. A Handshake: Ask People to trust (whitelist) your email address
    You do not want your email to land in spam. In your welcome email, you suggest some steps to earn the trust of their email provider.

Once the digital part of your side hustle is ready, it’s time to move into real-world testing. That’s when you find out whether you can really turn your experience into value.

Real World Testing

In the last How-Tos of the series, we look at how to connect with the people who need your solution. Who are they? Where do they meet? How do you reach them? You must reach out to grab their attention and lead them to your landing page. This is where testing begins. You refine and adapt your side hustle based on the results.
