How-To 8
Your Multitasking Workbench in Chrome

Welcome back to the workbench. In this How-To, you will learn how to use Google Chrome as an organized digital workspace. We are going to use browser “tabs.” Tabs allow you to keep multiple files open simultaneously without losing your place. You will learn how to arrange files in a row. You’ll switch between them quickly and pass text from one document to another. By the end of this How-To, you will manage multiple tasks efficiently. This way, you seldom need to close and reopen your tools. You can always access them in their own tabs.

Browser Tabs Explained

Throughout your life and career, you build a “Unique Personal Toolbox.” When you worked on a project, you kept everything accessible on a horizontal plane. Whether tools, paperwork, or multiple screens, you kept them together, ready to use. You needed an overview.

Your digital workspace functions like a physical workbench. You use web pages, customer sheets, and text documents simultaneously. For that, you need a horizontal cloud workbench. Google Chrome provides this through tabs. Tabs sit at the very top of your browser window, acting like file folders laid flat on a desk. They keep your digital tools within reach so you can work without interruption.

But there’s a downside, too. As a born chaotic, I sometimes end up with twenty-two tabs open on my tiny travel notebook. Each tab shows only a single letter to hint at what might be inside. These are the moments when I feel the urge to go back in time and ask for a neatly organized, alphabetically sorted list of files to choose from. Unfortunately, I’m not a time traveler, so I click through them one by one until I finally find what I was looking for.

Breaking Old Workflow Habits

Many people hit a wall when trying to manage multiple digital tasks. The real frustration is opening a file, reading it, closing it, and then searching for the next one. Doing this breaks your concentration. It causes you to lose your place and makes the computer feel slow and clunky.

Many people wrongly believe that opening too many things can break their computer. They think it is difficult to handle multiple screens. This digital anxiety forces people into a rigid, one-task-at-a-time mindset. Stop treating your browser like a single window. It’s slowing you down! Use tabs to manage your workspace, just like a pro builder. Using multiple tabs makes it easier to control your side hustle system. You have all the important parts in front of you. This helps keep your workflow efficient.

Organizing Tasks Side-by-Side

The best way forward is to drop the single-window habit. Instead, try using multi-tab navigation. By becoming the Builder and using your integrated Google tools, you can open a complete set of files at once.

Here are the technical rules and tab-switching basics. You can open many tabs to multitask. Each file will open in its own tab, along with the related tool.

The Chrome Window With Multiple Tabs
  • Navigating and Switching
To switch to another file, you do not need to close anything. Simply move your mouse to the top of the screen and click the name of the Tab you want to work in.
  • Open an existing File in a new Tab
DoubleClick on the file name in the SideHustle Master Folder. This folder is always in the Upper Left Corner from the start. Note: You can (accidentally) open the same file in multiple tabs. Try to avoid that and close the extra tabs if you notice this.
  • Safety in the Cloud
Because you are in the cloud, all changes are automatically saved before you click the ‘x’. You will never lose your progress when you close a tab.

Let us look at our “Growing Strawberries Indoors” example. When you run this project, keep your customer list (Google Sheet) open in one tab. Then, open your order form (Google Form) in the tab next to it. Switching between them with a single click lets you quickly verify your data.

Copy Data From One Tab to Another

Mastering tabs creates a profound shift in how you operate. You move from technical hesitation to true Builder confidence. You no longer feel trapped by a slow, rigid process. Instead, you dictate the flow of moving data effortlessly across your tools.

When your AI Hired Hand creates a great text, open it in one tab. Copy the text, then switch to your website tab. Finally, paste it right into your storefront. This simple flow gives you control over your digital workspace. You can test your business ideas quickly and safely.
